The previous history
History / development of video booths
Since the years 1981/82 the established film booths (1 super 8 film per booth) were replaced by video booths with 8 programs (VHS recorder) bit by bit.
Hereby for the very first time it became possible for the customer to watch a film anonymous, without any outsider knowing witch film he was actually looking at.
This „revolution“ in video booth technology effected, that within the following 10 years the profit of the shop owners as well as the amount of video programs augmented little by little. The supply of 128 programs per booth, just expedient and affordable arose as an economical limitation.
We kept an eye on the further evolution of video booths, and we had to accept the fact, that an increase of the number of programs would involve costliness, complexity and thus an excessive demand on the customer.
Our partner, Mr. Dewald, thus in 1991 had the idea of installing a second monitor in every booth split up in four partitions, the so called quad-image, used as a program preview. In the first version the customer was not yet able to choose the images shown within the quad-screen. That changed with the development of the “US Videotechnology”, designed for us as quad-technology distributed by us exclusively in Europe. Henceforth the customer could select one of the constantly changing “preview films” (1 to 128) from the upper TV using the 4 buttons A,B,C or D. At first our competitors smiled at this evolution as a fooling.
Yet the adoption of this new technology implicated a considerable profit gain for the operator. „Quad-technology“ is the standard today, and is installed in nearly every video booth.
Further development of the video booth in short:
- Use of cash acceptors
- Use of chip card systems
- Improvement of design, stainless steel resp. metal cabins
- Variety of video cabins (size, look etc.)
- Remote control of the recorder / DVD player
- Use of DVD players
- Direct selection of films via numeric keypad
Actual state
Within the last years there have been no notable technical innovations considering video booths. In contrast there is competition for the traditional video booth.
- Internet, images and films online
- Erotic films nearly every night on TV
- Porno films (skin-flick) in Pay TV
- Price decline at video films and DVD
- Storage of DVD`s easy to do for the customer. (minimal required place)
Based upon this competition, the profits in the sector of video booths have diminished or at best stagnated.
Further on the taxation locally augmented dramatically (amusement tax up to 30% of the gross turnover). New dues such as GEMA, as well as constantly high GÜFA- personnel- and lease costs, don’t simplify matters for shop owners.
The generally bad economic situation with a high degree of unemployment in Europe also beats down profit.
Future has started
Due to the problems mentioned above we decided to develop together with some computer experts a revolutionary new digital video booth technology.
It is our ambition to re-establish the head start of the traditional video technique (128 prgs. quad etc.) receding because of the so called new media, and thus help the shop owners to increase their profit.
The development and the realisation of this project has been very successfully concluded and we thus proudly present our digital video technology to our customers as a result.
